Each year the Colorado Chapter of the American Institute of Architects (AIA Colorado) recognizes design excellence at the AIA Colorado Awards Gala. This year, JOHNSON NATHAN STROHE was honored with two awards for our work on The Maven Hotel at Dairy Block.
The Maven received a 2017 Design Award from AIA Colorado and a 2017 Design Award from AIA Denver in the commercial and institutional category.
The Maven is an eight-story, 172-key development in Denver’s new Dairy Block. The hotel expresses an industrial, urban loft feel that reflects the Lower Downtown (LoDo) neighborhood in which it sits. The stylish, simple interior design celebrates craftsmanship and the spirit of the maker – themes that resonate strongly with the area’s past and present.
The space frames industrial materials in their raw state, including exposed concrete slab ceilings in the guestrooms. Beetle-kill pine panels and nailhead room numbers nod to the site’s former lumberyard, and emblematize the maker.
The project shows our commitment to creating elegant, contextual design solutions for our hospitality clients. The awards gala was a memorable evening for our JOHNSON NATHAN STROHE team and a wonderful recognition of our architects’ and designers’ work creating pragmatically beautiful spaces.
