Sala, LLC (NAI Shames Makovsky)
204 Guestrooms
Boulder, Colorado
Year Complete

One of two new hotels and a two-story below grade parking garage on a two-block site in Boulder, Colorado. A five-story hotel with 204 guestrooms in 167,000 SF, with a 7,000 SF ballroom and an outdoor pool and plaza.

The contextual design approach reflects the essence of Boulder and its natural surroundings, embracing nature, views, and the eclectic / eccentric nature of the community. The architectural palette of natural elements including flagstone, porcelain tile, stucco and cedar accents combine with a sophisticated combination of metal panels and glazing.

The hotel is family-oriented and targets travelers with longer stays. Natural materials of wood, stone and porcelain tile give a warm feel to the site and resonate with the spirit of Boulder. The public spaces are engaging and approachable. Natural bronze and copper create a warmer palette and feel, and authentic and memorable elements are used to enhance the guest’s experience.

The Embassy Suites palette finds its inspiration in the context of the University campus buildings. It is flagstone reflecting the Flatirons to the west, set off with a deep charcoal porcelain tile and a series of wood screens, soffits and returns. The large expanse of glazing on the corner serves to create a transparency and connection between the traveler and the city, the lobby and the community, architecture and nature. The lime green window shades are a nod to the Embassy Suites branding.
