This month, the City Park Golf Course officially opened! Spread out across 6,700 yards, the golf course will offer limited play to maintain social distancing with tee time reservations available 14 days in advance.
Alongside the newly-opened golf course is the JNS-designed City Park Golf Clubhouse, which opened earlier this year. Part of the 136-acre renovation project in Denver’s largest park, the clubhouse features a highly refined design with deep respect for the historical gem that is City Park.
Founded in the late 1880s, when a public park was considered a novel idea, City Park was designed to reflect a sense of community. As the architect of the new 11,280-square-foot clubhouse, our firm sought to build on the park’s rich history and create a gathering place with a variety of uses for the park’s next generation of visitors.
Studying various nearby historic structures, we designed the clubhouse to complement the park’s existing public buildings, combining raw steel and cross laminated timber reminiscent of early 20th century golf club construction.
The clubhouse is designed for LEED Gold certification and incorporates multiple sustainability strategies with energy conservation, photovoltaic solar panels and locally sourced materials.
Visitors don’t need to be avid golfers to enjoy the new clubhouse. The clubhouse features movable walls to maximize flexibility, enabling the space to serve functions up to 200 people for events of all kinds. The full bar and restaurant offers space for 40 people inside and 60 on the patio, allowing guests to soak in the stunning views of downtown Denver and the Rocky Mountains.
The City Park Golf Clubhouse has been an incredible project to work on, so we are thrilled to celebrate this final milestone with the opening of the City Park Golf Course. The park was originally designed to bring people together, and we hope this new clubhouse will be the perfect avenue for visitors to enjoy and savor one of Denver’s treasured landmarks.
