BEHIND THE DESIGN: SHERATON HOTEL DESIGNER WALK-THROUGH

JNS was proud to take part in the renovation of the Sheraton Downtown Denver hotel, an architectural icon in downtown Denver originally designed by renowned architect I.M. Pei. The team wanted to pay homage to Pei and his vision while honoring the Sheraton’s important place in the fabric of downtown Denver.

A few key design features to note:

  • The wall behind the reception desk is a beautiful focal point when visitors enter the lobby. The intricate wall was constructed using walnut planks and blackened steel rods before being finished with a Venetian plaster that helps the custom wood screen draw the eye upon entry.

  • The commons bar provides a dynamic gathering place for visitors to Denver as well as residents attending one of the many conferences hosted at the Sheraton. Designers brought in copper and applied it to a suspended framework with glass panels that are angled to reflect light in a way that appears almost faceted.

  • The building’s porte cochere was replaced with a grid that ties into the geometry of the I.M. Pei tower, adding a new element to an iconic building downtown that is recognizable to so many people.
