SHERATON HOTEL ARTWORK FEATURED IN HOSPITALITY DESIGN

An eclectic art piece commissioned by JNS for inclusion in the renovated Sheraton Downtown Denver hotel was recently featured in Hospitality Design magazine, which showcases design in hotels, restaurants and other hospitality spaces around the world.  

The piece, titled “Circuit Boards,” by Windy Chien graces the Sheraton’s lobby and was commissioned to honor JNS’s design intention of celebrating the world traveler and fit into the 1950s Beat Generation inspired design throughout the hotel. 

The “beat generation” was a literary movement in the ‘50’s influenced by writers including Jack Kerouac who spent significant time in Denver. The emphasis on the freedom of travel, adventure and music encouraged sharing experiences. This time provided the perfect design inspiration for a hotel reinvention. 

Designers incorporated many mid-20th Century elements into the Sheraton’s new scheme, including two macramé-inspred pieces, one of which is Chien’s “Circuit Boards,” curated with the help of art consultant, Daniel Fine Art Services. The macramé pieces add texture to the lobby area, bringing an element of tactile softness to the public spaces.

“Circuit Boards” also helps absorb sound in the lobby and adds dimension and even a bit of a challenge. As Chien told Hospitality Design, she likes to challenge viewers to choose one rope in the piece and follow it through the work, providing a metaphor for each person’s unique journey.
