ASHER ADAMS
A Pioneering Spirit

An adaptive reuse hospitality concept housed inside a 1908 Union Pacific Railroad station with a new 8-story addition, the vision for the Asher Adams Hotel was to bring new life to a historic space and establish an energized hub for human connectivity. Centrally located in downtown Salt Lake City, the hotel is conveniently located near the light rail, Vivint Smart Home Arena and Temple Square, among other noteworthy attractions.

Our concept for the Asher Adams represents the industrious, pioneering spirit of Salt Lake City’s founders. The era in which the city became connected with the Transcontinental Railroad was transformative for all aspects of travel, setting the foundation for the city’s ever-evolving identity as an international destination for business, outdoor recreation and cultural heritage. In turn, the programming for the space includes a number of iconic placemaking features, from two eye-catching bars (one that opens from the ticket booth directly into the grand hall and a second overlooking the hall), to event spaces in both the north wing of the station and the elevated stories of the new build tower, to a restaurant and bar in the south wing of the historic depot. Guestrooms include standard rooms located in the tower, as well as specialty suites within the original station.

A particular priority of the build was to maintain the historic fabric of the railroad station’s Grand Hall, including original light fixtures, tile and molding details, while seamlessly integrating new design elements. There were several particular challenges to overcome in the course of design and construction, including the integration of ample power or acoustic comfort within a century-old structure.
